I have been working in family law for around 35 years now. I have been working as a mediator for around 15 years now. I am a member of the Law Society's Children Law Accreditation Scheme; the Law Society's Family Law Accreditation Scheme Advanced Member; and the Law Society's Family Mediation Panel. I have also trained to see children direct when appropriate. I am now a partner in a niche specialist firm specialing in family law. We have a contract with the Legal Aid Agency to offer legal aid for family mediation where a client is financially eligible.
I believe that going to court is very much a last resort and that mediation when it works can help to improve communication between a couple and reduce conflict for the child(ren) involved. Court costs time and money - why should a third person (a Judge) decide how you should manage your family when you and your former partner are in the best position to decide what is best for your family. Mediation concentrates on the welfare of any child(ren) which can be lost in the cut and thrust of on going court proceedings.
I am married, have a hormonal teenage son and like living in the country.
